3D & 2D Satellite Mapping

Why do some courses have 3D mapping and some don't?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

If you’ve noticed that some golf courses in Open Tee don’t have 3D mapping, it’s because Apple Maps doesn’t offer 3D coverage in all locations worldwide.

Currently, Apple Maps provides rich 3D mapping for over 8,000 of the approximately 31,000 golf clubs globally. Apple prioritises areas of interest and highly populated regions when rolling out 3D coverage, meaning some courses, particularly in remote or less populated areas, may not yet have this feature.

Because Open Tee relies on Apple Maps for 3D course rendering, we cannot manually add 3D mapping to courses that are not yet supported.

As Apple continues to expand its 3D coverage, more courses will gain access to this incredible feature over time. If your course isn’t currently available in 3D, we appreciate your patience and recommend checking back periodically for updates.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our support team.

FAQs

The mapping at my course is out of date and needs updating?

Unfortunately we are currently bound by the updates that Apple makes to their satellite imagery. Apple tends to update imagery every 2-5 years depending on user feedback and impact. We can get in touch with Apple about these issues but it would also help if you filed a mapping out of date report with them as well.

A club has 3D mapping but isn’t listed as having it?

This can happen when Apple updates their 3D coverage. Lets us know and we’ll get it updated as soon as we can. Normally within 24h.
